Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on the "Vogue" India cover page

Bollywood actresses have moved on from just being on the silver screen and television endorsing products to the cover page of popular magazines.

With Deepika Padukone on the cover page of the "Cosmopolitan" we have none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to match it for the cover page of Vogue India. According to Aishwarya “Doing the Vogue cover was a promise I made to Anaita (Shroff Adajania) right from the time she joined the Vogue. Anaita was having a baby and she wanted me to do it before she delivers,” Aishwarya said to the NDTV news channel from London. Further she said “I was to do this shoot last month but I fell ill before I left for the world tour. So, we crossed notes and managed to do it on time in London just after we finished almost the last show of the tour.”

Shot in London after the successful "Unforgettable Tour", Aishwarya looks stunning with a few kilos lost. She sports a minimalistic look for the Vogue India First Anniversary special.

There are several more of our very own Bollywood actresses on cover pages these days what with publicity for their new releases and all. Will bring you updates on all this regularly in the coming days. Be tuned in on some Bollywood masala news...movies, fun and a lot of the Bollywood magic.

Is "Fashion"- the latest Bollywood release - a hit or flop?

"Fashion" has sure created a hype in the last few days prior to release. However, will the film be able to meet the high expectations? In theatres with "Golmaal Returns" too stands as a disadvantage I guess especially with kids not being able to go for the film, parents would definitely opt for a fun fill with the full family.

"Fashion" has generated the curiosity of the typical Madhur Bhandarkar film. Every Madhur Bhandarkar film is definitely looked forward to with much enthusiasm. It has been taken as a general rule that a Madhur film comes straight from real life. Although there are rumors that "Fashion" is a take from the lives of some famous models, the star cast denies it totally. Of course every film that wants to portray a real life incident or person comes with the typical disclaimer of "does not relate to the life of any person living or dead" and so "Fashion" follows in the traditionally laid out safe path.

It definitely will have the entire "Fashion" industry checking it out for any similarities to anyone they know. The press, of course, is there to scrutinise it under the microscope for any resemblance to anyone living or dead. even a faint resemblance is going to turn into a huge powerful headline. Anything...just about anything at this time that makes news will definitely work in favor of the film.

However, do you feel the film would be able to make it a success at the box office? Releasing with comedy film "Golmaal Returns" and a "A" certificate to add to it, will it work in favor or against the film "Fashion". Is "Fashion" a hit or flop? What do you think of the film?

Akshay Kumar in the Levis Ad

Akshay Kumar with yet another hit "Singh is Kinng" has raised himself to an entirely new level. He is the King of Bollywood and this has brought with it some goodies worth considering. He definitely commands a higher price today and yes, the spin-offs are a line of endorsements. The latest to add to his portfolio is the launch of the Levi's 501 Jeans. And he is looking HOT in the ads which are to go live in a few days.

Akshay Kumar is surely actor No.1 and Akshay-Katrina "Jodi No.1". He has yet another slated for release soon titled "Chandni Chowk to China" opposite the new sensation Deepika Padukone. For more details on Akshay's latest endorsement read on http://bollywood-blog.moviezen.com/2008/08/akshay-kumar-is.html

What's on in Bollywood?

Bollywood has been seeing a trend that has become really unpredictable. With mega budget glamorous films disappearing with so much as a sound is surprising. Is it that the preferences of the fans have changed or that film makers are unable to judge the likes and dislikes of their audience?

Films like "Jodha-Akbar" not rising to the expectations and again a fun-film like "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na" getting favor from the fans in large numbers - what does it all say? Is it comedy and light hearted films that are liked by the audience, what with the success of Akshay Kumar's "Singh is Kinng". Then again comedy films like "De Taali", "Mere Baap Pehle Aap" and Govinda's comeback film "Money Hai to Honey Hai" couldn't generate any kind of interest. What does all this say about Bollywood, do brands really sell here, do names make a difference (then what went wrong with "Thoda Pyar thoda Magic" from the Chopra banner and backed by a glittering star cast?)

Do film makers have to seriously consider playing to the galleries? Does Bollywood need a complete revamp? With so much of uncertainty is Bollywood insurance the only way that film makers can safeguard their interests? Madhuri dixit proves her chrisma yet again with the “Unforgettable tour”

Madhuri Dixit has been making hearts tick faster everytime with her sensational dance performances in the “Unforgettable tour”. The tour has proved truly “Unforgettable” for all fans who have been witnesses to her mega performances. The Aishwarya –Madhuri duo on “Dola Re Dola” was the much looked forward to event and they went much beyond the expectations of the fans with their stage presence and superb dancing talent.

The Unforgettable tour has been a real treat for the fans. There are ardent fans who have been trying to make it to several different venues to get a second or third glimpse of their favorite stars performing. There is really no stopping them even the huge physical distances between venues have not played spoilsport to their enthusiasm. So much to say about hero worship or heroine worship must I say.

Madhuri tried to make an unsuccessful comeback with the film “Aaja Nach Le”. The film too, had some brilliant performances by the actress , however, the script and storyline lacked the strength to make it at the box office. Madhuri’s selection of the film to make a comeback is what proved a hindrance to success or else her fans would have definitely backed her coming back whole heartedly. Anyway let past be past, she has proved beyond doubt that she has the same charisma and talent and can have her fans cheering her all the way even today.

The Bachchan family and the entire Unforgettable crew are winners in all respect - a mega event that they have made successful. For fans, the “Unforgettable Diary” is where you can catch glimpses of the blockbuster performances of the star. More on the Unforgettable tour here http://bollywood-blog.moviezen.com/2008/08/the-unforgettab.html

Bachna Ae Haseeno - Ranbir Kapoor is here

The disastrous performance of their debut film "Saawariya" did not have any ill effects on the career of the new comers - Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam. This probably has to do with the strong Bollywood backing that the two have. Anyway for whatever reasons(better not known), the two have put their past behind them and moved on to greener pastures.

Sonam is all geared up for her forthcoming release "Dilli 6". Ranbir on the other hand, romances three sexy glam dolls in his next release "Bachna Ae Haseeno". The three beautiful damsels in the film are none other than "Deepika Padukone", "Bipasha Basu" and "Minnisha Lamba". He has openly made the comment on a program on Zoom TV that Bipasha is the sexiest of the lot. Would this have Deepika fuming? Would Ranbir have to eat his own words?

Set for release tomorrow the 15th of August, this Independence day holds a lot in store for the makers and the stars. The chemistry of the real life couple Deepika and Ranbir is seen very clearly in the promos with have the flashy songs that make a big promise. With Friday just a few hours away there is a lot at stake for Deepika- Ranbir and also Yashraj productions. After the failure of its "Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic" they definitely have their fingers crossed for tomorrow's release. Anyway its "Bachna Ae Haseeno" the dashing Ranbir is on his way to steal your hearts.

For Salman and Priyanka fans too, tomorrow is surely a special day. The Salman, Amitabh and Priyanka starrer comedy "God Tussi Great Ho" is also going to be released tomorrow. For more on this click http://bollywood-blog.moviezen.com/2008/08/ranbir-kapoor-m.html . Here is an article of mine from ezine "Ranbir Kapoor - The New Star in Bollywood"

Is Ugly Aur Pugly - a hit or flop?

Ugly Aur Pugli” is it a hit or flop? The promos of the film looked interesting enough to get the people to the theatres. Although the papers are screaming out that the film is a “Smash Hit”, is it really true. The film didn’t have a great opening. The reason? The reason is known to the Indian audience alone. In fact, like the Indian stock market, the Bollywood films too really don’t have a specific reason for it to be termed a hit or flop. It depends on the mood of the people at the time I guess.

“Ugly Aur Pugli” the story of 99 slaps and a kiss is one from the Pritish Nandy Banner. The stars and the makers have a reason to smile. With positive word of mouth publicity the film sure is picking up. I think the reason for it for not taking off initially was Mallika Sherawat. The family audience like me is still a little skeptical about going for a film with the hot Mallika Sherawat and the ready to experiment Ranvir Shourey. You really don't know what to expect. I actually need someone reliable to recommend it before I venture out with my daughter to the theatre to watch the film. Although I am dying to watch it( as I personally like Mallika for her real cool attitude), don't know how safe it is for a just turned 9. http://bollywood-blog.moviezen.com/2008/07/hollywood-direc.html

Shilpa Shetty - it is all hep and happening

Shilpa Shetty's life these days is buzzing with activity. With a lot happening in both her personal and professional life, she is truly on the fast track.

On the personal front, she is enjoying her new found love. Professionally too, it is going great for her. Working on Sunny Deol’s film “The Man”, launching her yoga video, endorsing products and the most important is the launch of her own production house. Shilpa has major plans for making it a success on the production front as well. With sister Shamita Shetty taking over the creative reigns it sure is one family venture.

The sisters are out to prove their mettle to the world. Watch out for there is a lot coming from the dedicated, determined and talented star of “Big Brother” fame. Read on for more on Shilpa making her own music http://bollywood-blog.moviezen.com/2008/07/shilpa-shetty-t.html

Paresh Rawal - in multiple roles in “Maan gaye mughal-ae-azam

After Kamal Hassan’s “Dasavatharam” multiple roles seem the inn thing in Bollywood. He played 10 different roles or chracters to perfection in the film. Moving from the South to the Bollywood scene, we have none other than the versatile actor Paresh Rawal playing four different roles in his next release.

In his forthcoming release “ Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam”, Paresh Rawal is paired opposite the hot and sexy Mallika Sherawat. Both he and Rahul Bose play multiple roles in the film. Paresh plays four different characters namely, Haldi Hassan a noted Ghazal singer, Kayyum Cable, Uday Singh Mazumdar and Shahenshah Akbar. If you want variety here it is.

Sanjay Chhel claims that he has really brought out the best in Paresh which no other director has been able to accomplish so far. We will soon know. The judgement of the people is final. With the film slated for a August 22nd release it is not a very long wait. With Mallika Sherawat, Paresh Rawal and Rahul Bose all together, things really cannot go wrong. However, we need to wait and watch going by the way the box office has been rejecting films these days.

Amrita rao undergoes a total makeover

Amrita Rao has undergone a total makeover recently. From the girl next door she has transformed into the sexy damsel who is stealing several hearts these days.

The makeover she says is the new look for her film “Shortkut” with none other than Anil Kapoor. She sure has impressed many and top in the list is none other than the painter M.F Hussain. Read on for more on the surprise birthday gift she received http://bollywood-blog.moviezen.com/2008/07/amrita-rao-rece.html

Darsheel safary – brand ambassador of Spykar

Darsheel Safary who stole our hearts with his splendid performance in Aamir Khan’s film “Taare Zameen Par” is going to be the new brand ambassador for the Spykar kidswear OYO. Spykar has over 50 stores in 15 cities across India. The next phase of their expansion plans involves the opening of over 50 more stores of the brand and that too in a period of 3 months.

He has signed a one year contract with the brand and will now make news with the aggressive ad campaign that is planned with the star in mind. For more on the DVD launch of his film “Taare Zameen Par” click here http://bollywood-blog.moviezen.com/2008/07/taare-zameen-pa.html

Cricketing stars are the latest descendants on the silver screen

Cricketers taking to acting is a new trend seen in recent times. Our very own cricketing sensation “Anil Kumble” is soon going to be seen in a Pritish Nandy Communications “Meerabai Not Out”. He is paired in the film opposite non other than the cricket glamour girl “Mandira Bedi”. The cricketer says he plays himself in the film and that is the reason for him signing for it.

There are a whole lot of other cricketers waiting to descend on the silver screen. Yes, I am talking of Harman Baweja’s newly signed film “Victory” wherein he plays the role of a cricketer. He would be seen with cricketers from several different teams like Sri Lanka and Australia. Talks are on to rope in more cricketers from other countries of the world. This looks like yet another ambitious project like the mega “Love Story 2050”.

Harman has been watching and practicing a lot of cricket to play the role to perfection. The film is directed by theatre personality Ajit Pal. The work on the film is expected to begin by the month of November. Harman would be paired opposite the sexy Amrita Rao in the film. Anupam Kher plays the part of Harman’s dad in the film. Looks like the going is good for Harman inspite of his debut film bombing at the box office. We wish him all the best for his forthcoming ventures.

Katrina Kaif – makes a television appearance

Bollywood sure has realized the potential of the television media to reach the individual households and the hearts of people. This is the reason why stars from the silver screen are seen descending on the small screen these days. Any new film that is to be released and you find the cast on different programs on television. From giving performances, being judges for reality shows to participating in game shows , its all part of the promotion strategy of films these days. Reach out to a wider audience with the glamour of the Bollywood stars- that is the mantra for marketing. Aamir-Imraan the uncle-nephew pair were seen doing the rounds of television shows recently close to the release of their film.

Now it is time for the beautiful and sexy Katrina Kaif take on the torch. With her new film “Singh is Kinng” all set for release on the 8th of August, Katrina sure is seen in the news nowadays. First, it was her grand birthday bash with the whos who of Bollywood and Mumbai attending, then the showdown and the rumors of break up with Salman Khan and now she is seem on “Baa Bahu Aur Baby”, the popular television serial. She was seen being part of the birthday celebrations of Baby in the serial.

A lot of hype has been created about the film with Katrina and Akshay Kumar in the lead role. Dangerous stunts, rocking music and Akshay Kumar in an all new role of a “Singh” ….this sure would be one that would have the box-office gambling over - hit or flop - once again. Imraan khan - a star is born

This Saturday we thought would go and see the blockbuster of the year. Yes, "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Ne" it is. The film has been adjudged the blockbuster of the year till date. Imraan, the chocolate boy is a star. Imraan says that just a few days back people were not so sure of him and were not ready to touch him with a barge pole. However, over one Friday things have changed completely. His phone has not stopped ringing and he has been flooded with offers. Aamir has decided to cast nephew in the next film "Delhi Belle". There are rumours that Imraan has been approached by Karan Johar forhis next film. The rumour mills have not stopped ringing ever since destinies were decided on the 4th of July.

The film "Jaane Tu ya Jaane Na" has been doing very well. With the whole of Saturday being housefull we were quite disappointed. Buying tickets in black is strictly against my policies and so it was back home for us. Would love to see the film atleast this weekend. With great reviews and interesting promos the film is a must see on our list. A good film at the theatres after really long. I am also looking forward to catch Vidya Balan's Kismat Konnection and Mallika sherawat's "Ugly Aur Pugli".For more on the Imraan Khan magic check out http://bollywood-blog.moviezen.com/2008/07/aamir-khan-does.html

Thoda pyar thoda magic- Bollywood movie review

Like I mentioned in my weekend post, it was "Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic" for us. Went for the matinee show. I was a little skeptical about how it would turn out as the papers had given it only a one and half star rating. My daughter was very keen and thought it would be a good outing for her.

Frankly speaking, I feel the critics have come on too hard on the film. I personally liked the film. Itd efinitely offers a great time for kids with all the magic, and Rani Mukherji to me is a very likeable . character. It is a story about love and how the 4 kids and Saif learn to love and like each other from a very hate-hate beginning. The serious subject has been dealt with very well. The 4 kids- Vasisht, Iqbal, Aditi and Avantika have done a superb job. The film definitely made be smile with them and also shed a few tears with them.
Kunal Kohli has done a great job. A good film after a really long time. The film may not have had a great opening but personally feel that it would catch up in the coming days. A fun treat for the entire family, it is one film that you can enjoy with your kids.http://bollywood-blog.moviezen.com/2008/06/saif-and-rani-.html

Shilpa Shetty in "The Man"

Shilpa Shetty is the actress turning the rumor mills these days. The actress whose potential was not really understood on the Bollywood scene, has come back from Hollywood with a bang.

Winning the “Big Brother” show has put Shilpa in an already different league and she currently is left with no time with her overflowing offers and running assignments. With the hype and fame of the Big Brother show there are many offers for her in bollywood as well. With several international projects in her kitty, she is now making an appearance in Sunny Deol’s “The Man”. The actress plays herself in the film. She has several plans laid down for the future – not only for her but is also concentrating on getting her sister Shamita Shetty’s career right.

We wish the star all the best in her future projects and in her personal life too.For more on the rocking Shilpa shetty http://bollywood-blog.moviezen.com/2008/06/shilpa-shetty-r.html

Bollywood Bloggers- a glitzy glam blogging world

The population in the world of bollywood bloggers is suddenly seeing a huge rise. With many bollywood celebrities finding it an easier and more reliable way to connect with their fans, those joining the bandwagon is increasing by the day.

Actor Aamir Khan was the first to make an entry into the writing world and is an instant hit. Seeing the popularity of the actor and finding it an important tool and in fact, the best medium to deal with the gossip creating media, the actors and actresses are turning writers. Amitabh Bachchan is the new controversial blogger who has been having his blog talked about for several of his posts. He claims to be just learning the ropes and promises to soon turn into an expert blogger.

The blogging bug has bitten many stars. The very fact that they have been posting from airports, hotel rooms in different cities and even from the sets goes to show how addictive blogging is. Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic –what’s in store for the Bollywood latest movie

"Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic" the Saif-Rani starrer from the Yash banner released yesterday - Friday, June 27th. The film has Saif and Rani starring together after a really long time. Hope the film holds some magic for both their careers. After the not so good (to put it mildly) results of "Laaga Chunari Me Daag" Rani definitely is looking forward to some magic. As for Pyar, Rani is all over the place spreading love and promoting her film.

The papers have not been very generous with the reviews and one leading daily has rated it only at one and a half stars. Anyway I guess it is a feel good film and being the weekend, have decided to take my daughter over for an outing. She has been enjoying the promos and with the four kids in it, the film looks like has some fun for the kids. A movie after long where you can go with kids without having to worry about violence, the flesh show and all the adult stuff. But for the surprise package of Amisha Patel with her "Lazy Lamhe". My hubby too is all excited about going for the film. Haven't asked him for the reason and prefer not to do so (guess will keep it at "ignorance is bliss" for now".

Will let you in on the review after getting back from the theatres till then it's bye from me with "Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic". Ther's also another film that's similar in title in the theatres "Thodi Life Thoda Magic" starring Arbaaz Khan, Meera Vasudevan...Meera is said to have played her role well and the film is one that I am contemplating going for too.For more on this http://bollywood-blog.moviezen.com/2008/06/todays-special.html

Genelia D’souza – the new kid on the block

Genelia D'souza is not new to the world of films. She has been doing a films down South however, she still comes forth as a fresh innocent young face.

Went for the film "Mere Baap Pehle Aap" last weekend. The film was a major disappointment and coming from the likes of Priyadarshan - not acceptable. Guess when you are good and successful the standards set are very high and you just cannot afford to falter at any step. The price that you have to pay for success, you are constantly being assessed at every step. Priyadarshan definitely needs to do an introspection.

Anyway coming back to Genelia. I liked her in the film and am really looking forward to her release "Jaane Tu Jaane Na" where she co-stars opposite Aamir's nephew Imraan Khan. The film is a film about youngsters and the promos too look all rosy and nice, takes me back a few years down memory lane.

This is going to be a repeat of what happened a few months back. Remember when two big budget films "Saawariya" and "Om Shanti Om" released on the same day. The speculation about which one of the two would have the cash registers ringing went on till the King Khan proved his ultimate superiority. July 4 is going to be another such day. Both "Jaane Tu Jaane Na" and "Lovestory 2050" are set for release on the same date with new comers Imraan Khan and Harman Baweja. Guess who would have the last laugh. For Genelia I am surely looking forward to seeing her film. However, can't miss the Priyanka starrer too.For more on the July 4 check out http://bollywood-blog.moviezen.com/2008/06/july-4-the-war.html

Manisha Koirala – the Saudagar girl makes a comeback to Bollywood

I still remember seeing the Bollywood movie "Saudagar" . The film was then advertised as a mega budget film starring the two icons of Bollywood Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar. The film was introducing two new actors I remember , the young and charming beauty from Nepal "Manisha Koirala" and the young hero Vivek Mushran . the film was a big hit with the song "ILU ILU" taking on very well with the youngsters. Even the song with Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar singing "Imli ka Boota Beri ka Ped, imli Katti Meethe Ber" was very popular.

Manishs had gone into hibernation for a long while now and is now making a comeback to Bollywood. For reasons best known to her and her alone she decided to keep off from the industry for a really long time , hope this time she has a better experience here and has something nice for her fans. For more on her http://bollywood-blog.moviezen.com/2008/06/manisha-koirala.html

Amitabh Bachchan - The Big B- makes headlines

Amitabh Bachchan sure is one good subject that the media always has. Whatever be the news they will always find people to listen. From the Raj Thackerey episode, the UP land deal to his movies, the Abhishek – Ash marriage it is all news and Big B surely can make headlines whatever he does. For now it is all positive no negative shades at all. The Bachchans have their new release “Sarkar Raj" now. Three members of the Bachchan family have worked together in the film and so they definitely do have a lot at stake. Although “Sarkar Raaj” did not do too well at the box office the three Bachchans have been lauded for their superb portrayal of the respective characters For more on the film and the Bachchans http://bollywood-blog.moviezen.com/2008/06/sarkar-raj-or-b.html

For the Bachchans, it is time to move on. Miles to go before I sleep, and so here they are already planning and working hard for their forthcoming the much hyped – Bachchans tour. With lots of stars and a mega event planned there is a lot of preparation that is going into making it a success. The new star to join the tour is the Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty. Madhuri Dixit too has agreed to perform as part of the tour. This sure is one great event that the fans are looking forward to. Madhuri would join the tour in the US phase. So it is action time now at the Bachchans place.

Amitabh Bachchan has a new feather in his cap. The handsome and stylish Bollywood actor has been voted the “Sexiest Vegetarian Male in Asia” by the PETA(People for Ethical Treatment of Animals). What charm, style and charisma I am still all for the Big B – an ardent fan. In fact have grown up on his films.

Aamir Khan-Shahrukh the King Khan and the blog dog issue

Aamir Khan recently created a huge furore by calling Bollywood actor Shahrukh “ a dog” in his blog. Shahrukh reaced to it and what next it made the headlines for a few days to come. Not only the newspapers and the Bollywood magazines cashed in on the hot news and also blew it out of proportion but also the online world was buzzing with activity. Aamir sure hada huge number of hits on his blog after the blog post. Here is an excerpt from the post which was at the eye of the storm.

“I’m sitting under a tree, on the edge of a valley, approximately 5000 feet above sea level. The river Krishna flows far below us snaking its way among the Sahyadri mountains. A cool breeze is blowing, jannat ki hawa (breeze from the heavens), as my mother calls it. Ammi, Ira and Junaid are by my side and we are in the middle of one of our favourite board games ‘Settlers Of Catan’. Shahrukh is licking my feet and I am feeding him biscuits every now and then. What more can I ask for?

Now, before you jump to any conclusions let me add that Shahrukh is the name of our dog. And before you jump to any further conclusions let me add that I had nothing to do with naming him. In fact Shahrukh is the dog of the caretakers of our house. When I bought this house it came with the caretakers and their dog! Apparently Shahrukh (the actor) was shooting for a commercial in this house a few years ago, and that very day the caretakers bought a pup…, and named him Shahrukh. What are the chances of me buying a house which comes with a dog called Shahrukh!!!

Some of my friends claim that I bought the house just because of the dog. I would have to be a serious fan of Shahrukh’s to want to do that. Your guess…

All I can say is I’m waiting for him to come over,

Getting back to Settlers of Catan, it’s a wonderful game. You must try it if you are fond of board games.

All in all I am having a great time with my mom and kids here in my favorite place on earth, Panchgani. I think Kiran and I must have done something good in our life to be blessed with this great place to get away to.

My hamstring muscle seems to be healing, slowly but surely.

Catching up on films, saw Casino Royale last night which I liked.

Incidentally Panchgani is a favorite with para-gliders. Now that’s something I am going to learn as soon as I finish with the Ghajini shoot.

Well Shahrukh is once again begging for my attention, so let me get back to him. He is smelling too much, I think he needs a bath. “Heel boy, heel.”

Now guys what do you think, wasn’t that a real nasty piece to write that too from someone of Aamir’s stature. Of course we are all glad that he apologized but being a big Aamir fan I was rather disappointed at his rude sense of humor. With Bollywood actors like Aamir , Amitabh Bachchan the Big B and now Salman and many more joining the blogging world, blogs must be put forward rather carefully. With them being huge icons and having a huge fan following upon them lies a responsibility to be the role model. For more on your favorite Aamir Khan check out http://bollywood-blog.moviezen.com/2008/05/aamir-khans-lat.html

Shahrukh Khan – is undoubtedly the King of IPL

The King Khan Shah Rukh Khan has entered the field of cricket as well. After making a beginning in the world of acting with the television serials “Fauji” and “Circus”, Shahrukh Khan has not looked back since. From the small screen of the television to the mega screen of Bollywood is what he achieved with sheer hard work and sincerity. His successful films like Diwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge, Chak De and Om shanti OM to name a few speak volumes about his acting and sincerity to work. When he entered the glitzy world of Bollywood it was a time when heroes were reluctant to play any negative role. Shahrukh Khan was a hero who made the guy look good in Bollywood with films like “Baazigar”. From mega films to his own entertainment company – Red chillies entertainment – several top brand endorsements, being the host of game shows on television and now the popular 20-20 cricket – the IPL.

Shahrukh has definitely gone places and that too in a really short time period. Business seems to be a part of him. Whatever he touches soon turns into gold. The Bollywood actor with the Midas touch that is what Shahrukh Khan is referred to these days. He knows how to make the most of his time and combine business and pleasure. “Sunday” – latest Bollywood movie release – movie review

Last Sunday was spent in the theatre watching the latest Bollywood movie “Sunday”. The newspapers and online critics tore the film apart right at the opening. This probably is why we got the tickets on a Sunday without difficulty. The viewer comments include statements that start with "how bad the film is" and especially the "gay jokes"...The potential cine goers were probably apprehensive with all this bad press that the film got.

We too had not to go for it however, with the lazy Sunday and the urge to go to the theatres…and with nothing much on the list to watch. We were not left with much choice but “Sunday”. A Bollywood masala movie from every aspect “Sunday” however proved to be a good watch. Although I cannot say much in praise but surely not bad like the critics mercilessly described it. In fact, my hubby was like I think you should write about it in your blog. With all the bad comments it was getting even one good review would make a difference. A good mix of drama, comedy and suspense. I guess this bollywood movie is for those who do not feel you need to cry every time you walk out of the theatre. With a better glitzy star cast and some more publicity the film could have done well. The film has Bollywood actress Ayesha Takia and actor Ajay Devgan playing the lead role. The supporting star cast with Arshad Warsi and Irfan Akhtar have actually taken away the cake. A murder mystery with a dash of drama and humor.

The problems in the Bollywood film lie with the bad editing and some technical issues. A lack of continuity or flow is one that stands against the film. It is a scene by scene film in the first half rather than a flowing story. Overall would rate it as a good watch agan if you do not have much to do for the weekend. Just chill with a pepsi and bag of popcorn at your favorite theatre or you could probably wait till the Bollywood DVD releases. Think this film would do ok with some word of mouth publicity working for it.

“Welcome” – a real Bollywood masala mix-movie review

Yet another bollywood masala - "Welcome" – from the hit popular director Anees Bazmee. Bollywood movie is a hit at the box office like his other films. This Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif starrer is in the theatres now – your latest bollywood release. A bollywood comedy without any particular story line – a body without a head, that is what this multi-starrer “Welcome” is all about. It is Bollywood masala with no plot but clean plain fun. A film for the entire family. May sound a little clichéd like they say for all new bollywood movies but this is a good fun experience.

The plot if I may say so revolves around how a Don or underworld ruler family of Nana Patekar(Uday) and Anil Kapoor(Majnu bhai) are trying to find a great guy for their one and only little sister- Katrina(Sanjana). Paresh Rawal playing the character of Dr. Ghungroo in the film is also on a match making spree too. He is girl hunting so to say for his simple straight forward nephew Akshay Kumar. He wants a simple good girl and that too from a family with any kind of criminal background or negative shades. As luck would have it Paresh Rawal reaches you know where……

The comedy is good but don’t have great expectations. With Majnu Bhai (Anil Kapoor) proving yet again his flair for comedy. Supporting actors Feroze Khan or RDX in the film have not managed to be make a big contribution to the film. A total timepass comedy if you don’t have anything to do on the weekend the theatres with “Welcome” is well ok to be.

For parents who are worried about Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat in the film, you can go with kids without worry. A song and a scene and Mallika too can be passed of with a “U”. That probably would be a sigh of relief for most parents. Children at the theatre did have fun and with the holidays it sure is going to be a bindass family watch.

A sensitive portrayal – Aamir’s brainchild – “Taare Zameen Par”-movie review

It was the interest of my 8 year old daughter and her interes to see Aamir film that made me venture out to the theatres. The virant and lively catchy tunes of "Bam Bam Bole" and the little clips of the film did manage to strike a chord I must admit with me too. The curiosity that a film draws must admit is terrific and this being his directorial debut had a strong attractive power. A lazy Sunday afternoon decided to be spent in the theatre turned out to be an absolute learning experience. A learning experience like no other.

Dyslexia is what the film mainly dealt with. A learning disorder I have (like many others) definitely come across this in several books, shows and magazines. This however, was a real eye opener. The intensity of the condition and how it can take you on a real roller coaster ride has been portrayed very sensitively in the film. This probably was a learning experience for many adults, parents, teachers and all those connected to the academic field. If you have been able to give it a good hearing it has struck a chord somewhere within you. That is what Taare Zameen Par is.a film that has taken Bollywood by surprise. Taare Zameen Par has proved that you do not need an action thriller or a masala story to make a hit.

This truly is yet another feather in Aamir’s cap. It proves his credibility not only as an actor but also a creator, a person who has the ability to visualize and give it the right shape. Yet another side of the multi-faceted personality of Aamir.

"Taare Zameen Par" is a sensitive portrayal of the journey of a dyslexic child. It has been dealt with in a superb style and sensitivity. A serious issue dealt with in a light and fun-filled manner that each one of us is ready to give it a patient hearing. He has brought to light a huge issue that many have turned their backs too or have just overlooked.

In the rat race that we all are running today and getting our child to run being a topper, a high performer is all that has come to matter. We fail to recognize the individual ability or talent that our child shows. Every child is different and it is important to understand that in the first place. Each child is blessed with a unique set of skills and talents, it is important to recognize, understand and encourage it. . All it requires is some time and understanding. You would then surely be the parent of a topper who excels in his chosen field. His chosen field is what is important here.

The film is a milestone in the history of Bollywood and is what is the headline of Bollywood news today. A simple message of understanding and relating to one’s child is beautifully presented. You are the guide, the leader, your little one is too young to understand the right from the wrong. You must lead him or her to the right path rather than get them lost somewhere on the way and blame them for it. It is you as an adult , as a parent, who must extend your hand forward for timely help.

Aamir has proved himself to be a good actor and also found the right characters to portray the shades he wanted. Darsheel Safary or Ishaan Awasthi as we know him now has played his character to perfection. You have to be your child's best friend and be by his side. Like the character Ishaan Awasthi your little one may not find a mentor like Ram Shankar Nikumbh to get him out of a situation like this. You have to be by his/her side and lead them the right way and hold them before they fall and get hurt.

Cheers to Aamir for a terrific film that is going to go down in Bollywood history as one masterpiece. A beautiful film after long that has been able to retain my attention till the very end.Unlike most Bollywood Films, "Taare Zameen Par" has maintained the tempo throughout. The film has not lost focus mid-way. A complete and wonderful package to all age groups is what “Taare Zameen Par” brings for us.
