“Sunday” – latest Bollywood movie release – movie review

Last Sunday was spent in the theatre watching the latest Bollywood movie “Sunday”. The newspapers and online critics tore the film apart right at the opening. This probably is why we got the tickets on a Sunday without difficulty. The viewer comments include statements that start with "how bad the film is" and especially the "gay jokes"...The potential cine goers were probably apprehensive with all this bad press that the film got.

We too had not to go for it however, with the lazy Sunday and the urge to go to the theatres…and with nothing much on the list to watch. We were not left with much choice but “Sunday”. A Bollywood masala movie from every aspect “Sunday” however proved to be a good watch. Although I cannot say much in praise but surely not bad like the critics mercilessly described it. In fact, my hubby was like I think you should write about it in your blog. With all the bad comments it was getting even one good review would make a difference. A good mix of drama, comedy and suspense. I guess this bollywood movie is for those who do not feel you need to cry every time you walk out of the theatre. With a better glitzy star cast and some more publicity the film could have done well. The film has Bollywood actress Ayesha Takia and actor Ajay Devgan playing the lead role. The supporting star cast with Arshad Warsi and Irfan Akhtar have actually taken away the cake. A murder mystery with a dash of drama and humor.

The problems in the Bollywood film lie with the bad editing and some technical issues. A lack of continuity or flow is one that stands against the film. It is a scene by scene film in the first half rather than a flowing story. Overall would rate it as a good watch agan if you do not have much to do for the weekend. Just chill with a pepsi and bag of popcorn at your favorite theatre or you could probably wait till the Bollywood DVD releases. Think this film would do ok with some word of mouth publicity working for it.
